History
In June of 2005, Something Awful (http://www.somethingawful.com) started a "Danceman" trend, where a generic dancing character in .gif form had his head replaced with various characters. Pom then made a thread (http://www.gamingforce.com/forums/showthread.php?t=70247) requesting edits of the Danceman character. Niki decided to join in and posted the following inquiry:
Sooooo... Does that mean all our classics are supposed to be SA's modificated ones? ~niki
To which Pom responded:
No because then that would mean that
a) anything you make of danceman is automatically a classic
b) danceman was an SA creation (which it isnt)
:nikishortdance:
Edit: that would also mean c) modificated is a word ~Pom
This post caused niki to create the :fupom: smiley, and a legend was born.
Usage
The meaning behind :fupom: varies depending on who is using it. For some, it is used jokingly to display dissatisfaction with Pom or his actions, and for others it shows that they mean SERIOUS BUSINESS in their dislike of Pom.
The smilies text itself is interchangable, with the word 'Pom' easily swapped out for any person, place or thing that is the topic of discussion at the moment.
