Following the crushing and extremely disheartening defeats of Mayhem, The Unsung War, and Zero during the previous years of the Best Song Contest, Tails looked for a new contestant to lead the charge in the Belkan Campaign against GFF's horrible taste in music, covertly named OPERATION SLEDGEHAMMER.

On May 18th 2007, following an opening nomination by Adol of Merlon (http://www.gelb-2.belkanairforce.com/Music/14%20-%20Merlon.mp3) (right click, save as) from Ace Combat Zero, Tails considered Merlon to be a worthy candidate and also gave it his nomination. With combined 3rd seed nominations by the pair, Merlon was given the 9th seed overall in a total field of 256. It was here that the long path to war began.

Legacy of a Titan

Merlon progressed through 5 rounds. The following is a list of the rounds (starting with Round 1 and ending with Round 5) and their final vote tallies.

Controversy and Retirement

As with anything Ace Combat/GFF related, drama quickly found its way into the mix. Sometime around the 4th and 5th rounds of the contest, accusations of campaigning and other dirty tactics were thrown around as anti-AC voters began to pour out in droves. Despite this setback, justice was served as Merlon proceeded to put the final nail in its opponents coffin, turning a potential 27-33 loss into a powerful 46-38 victory in the final hours of the poll. Of course, many panties were twisted in the process, and an outcry of injustice was soon heard from many, many faggots.

Following much arguing and deliberation (started by Tails' dissing of the Anti-Ace Combat crew (http://www.gamingforce.org/forums/best-vgm-song-contest-2007/19968-best-song-contest-2007-discussion-thread-post486931.html#post486931)), Dr. Uzuki finally gave nod to the notion that, were it allowed to continue, Merlon would become the most uncontested champion the BSC has ever seen. As such, Merlon was retired early in order to give the other songs a fair chance, proving that no matter what the final result would turn out to be, Merlon was truly #1.

On the basis that its victory seems assured, and in the interest of regaining the faith of participants, MERLON's retired status will go into effect immediately. I don't anticipate running the contest next year. If it's ran by anyone at all, I'd strongly recommend retiring Ace Combat as a series for the same reason the former top 16 finalist are barred. Proven to be popular and well like tracks make the results predictable and drain interest levels. ~ Dr. Uzuki
