Talk:New England Meet 2006

From GFWiki

I guess I'll put my own commentary here.

I don't think it could be overstated how much the weather sucked. It was cool and it was raining all day (despite Plarom or someone saying it would "let up" when we were all together at the Atrium Mall). Included with this is the fact that I had never driven past Exit 48 on Interstate 95 (which is about where I-95 has sex with Route 128 and spawns one of the more demonic tracts of 55 mile-per-hour in Massachusetts) and you've got a recipe for...nothing? I managed to get there, weaving throughout the traffic (which either knew something about driving 128 @ 10-20mph over the speed limit in some rain, or were just being dumb). I get to the Mall and...go behind it. Then I turn around after calling Sass and wait 10 minutes for parking. I get topside and join the group...of four other people. I guess I missed the whole idea of meeting AT 2PM. Everyone had arrived by 2:45, and we still had to wait a half-hour for the table(s) to get set for us.

I almost bought the Flying Gorilla (alcoholic chocolate milkshake, I guess, which Monkey King got), but I was happy with the strawberry smoothie I got. My filet mignon was good and so was the Brownie Sundae Cheesecake.

I was kind of out of the loop as far as forum drama went, which is why I was pretty quiet.

When we got to Fun 'n' Gamez (which, as the article says, I pwnt the driving to) I was waiting for everyone else to get there, so I played Ms. Pac-Man and, despite getting a free play, I did poorly. Those arcade games must've been set to be stupid hard because Plarom got his ass kicked by Soul Calibur 2. (Anyone who's played the console version knows you should be able to get out of the first few battles.) I also dominated Dr. Uzuki in foosball, but it was really unfair because he hadn't slept in hours. Then, we played laser tag, and I got 9 caps from just standing at our goal and shooting their goal (which you probably shouldn't be able to do). Then I started realizing that it was about time for me to go. We got to the West Natick train station (where I skipped a perfectly good chance to revue The Shawshank Redemption in a draining area) and left behind the majority of the group.

I was disappointed with how much time was wasted in the whole process. Again, it took about an hour after I arrived for us to get to our table, then we didn't get out of The Cheesecake Factory until 5PM, then we didn't get out of Fun 'n' Gamez until around 8. I really wanted to go with the group into Boston but I had to work the next day from 6AM-3PM, so I really couldn't stick around without risking not getting any sleep. Sass insisted I called out but considering how I really didn't feel like I knew what was going on with the conversations that had been taking place, I didn't think I was going to get any closer with the group once they started drinking.

Still, I had fun. The more appealing after-effects of the meet were blowing Sass and Alice's expectations of me away. It's somewhat unfortunate that I had to meet them in person to get their minds changed on me, but it makes me feel better about going.
