The Political Palace Award for Best Debater

Award formerly known as the "Lord Styphon" Award for Best Debater. Renamed in 2007 as part of the new initiative.

The fine art of debating takes much skill, and we give this award those who could debate their way to the top of the world.

Debate is an acquired skill. It requires patience, logic, observation and eloquence. Though we all engage in a good debate now and then, some folk excel at the craft. In fact, they almost seem to live for it. It doesn't matter what the subject is, they can formulate a smooth, compelling argument for nearly any subject if they so choose. To some, it's like poetry. To those on the receiving end of the argument, it's a death sentence.

Editors Note: The Award was renamed after Lord Styphon in '06, and since he wrote all the award descriptions for that year, no real description is available. He chose to use the '04 description with an added comment at the end.

"(I could write something specific to why this award is now named for me, but that would just be pretentious. So I'll steal the 2004 award description instead.)"

2007:

"Political Palace, home to the most stubborn and opinionated of our members. Where well constructed arguments fly back and forth amongst the cut and thrust of intelligent discourse. Until some cunt comes along and quotes half the bible and two thirds of the Bill of Rights of course...

Some people are it seems better at getting their point across than others. They know what they want to say and they say it, without feeling the need to quote huge tracts of other people's writing and without necessarily trying to dress up a fairly crappy point in flowery language to make it sound better. The Political Palace Award for Best Debater should go to which ever member you consider to be the most skilled in the art of debate. Someone who is able to get their point across in the most effective fashion and does so consistently. We are trying to celebrate debating skill here, rather than tenacity so please bear that in mind when nominating" -- Shin
