This phrase (and other variants of) originated from making fun of Camus in 2003, because he constantly told everyone in the Help Desk to use Firefox (http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/), sometimes even if it had nothing to do with the poster's problem.

This was before Firefox was as popular as it is today. In fact, this was even before it was called Firefox (it used to be called Firebird, which used to be called Phoenix). FIRETRUCK was coined because in earlier versions you could put a clip art image of a firetruck on the About screen.

As with anything making fun of Cam, it was thrown around a lot, especially in #gfchat, where he spent a lot of time. It eventually faded out when people realized that making fun of Cam was futile and/or stupid.
