What is War of the Words?
This community event was organized and created by Dekoa. The event is basically a tournament between many writers on GFF. There were a total of 24 participants at the beginning of the tournament and 12 different themes in between them in 2006. The voting rounds are anonymous to ensure that people don't vote just out of popularity. Each of the themes that were used were along the lines of fictional writing or possibly a rant type argument.
In early 2007, the War of the Words was revived for a second round, dubbed "Word War II" by organizers. This happened to coincide with a period of great server instability at GFF, and progress has been both slow and frequently interrupted.

Many writers were unable or unwilling to complete their first entry, dropping out of the contest in the first round and giving their designated opponents an automatic victory or "bye." Several others did the same for subsequent rounds, though the rate was far lower.
