Werewolf Game

What is Werewolf?

Werewolf is a forum game where players are assigned role by their "Game Master." Basically the roles are divided into good guys and bad guys, with special abilities for each role. During the "night" time, those players with night time roles will act upon them. The Mafia and Wolves each select someone to kill, then PM the GM their target. Their Spy or Devil sends a target to uncover their role in a returned PM. Other "good guy" roles PM targets as their roles specify.

During the day, everyone pretends to be innocent good guys. While some actually are, the bad guys pose as good guys and collectively the group posts in the thread to discuss actions and vote to lynch a player. After the votes are in, or the night roles are done, their respective time periods are over.

How did it reach GFF?

Lukage brought the game to GFF from Starkingdoms Forums (http://forums.starkingdoms.com) which was brought from the game's long history elsewhere. Some players in the initial discussion claimed to have played variations of the game on different forums.

What are the roles and rules?

A discussion of the rules and game variations can be found HERE (http://www.gamingforce.com/forums/community-commons/13547-werewolf-blog-q-discussion.html#post289955)

The Rules

Night:

Each night, the Werewolves, Mafia, and Vigilantes each choose one person to kill while the Devil, Spy, and Possible Seers choose one person to See. Baner, Archangel, Magistrate choose one person to protect. Everyone else sleeps. Posting is allowed, but no discussion of strategy.

Day:

Every day, the entire community comes together to lynch someone for the murders commited in the night. Werewolves, Mafia, Devil, and Spy all act (and look) like innocents and participate in the mob, trying to lynch a goodie.

Possible Roles:

Good

Masons -- No special ability, other than knowing each other from the beginning.

Seer -- Pick one person per night to See and learn their role.

Fool -- Seer who usually learns the wrong role.

Vigilante -- Chooses one person per night to kill, hoping that their victim is evil.

Hunter -- If killed at night, is given a list of his killers (Werewolves or Mafia) and chooses one of them to kill. If the vigilante kills the hunter, the vigilante will also die.

Villager -- Poor sod who waits around to die. Also known as Cannon Fodder.

Preacher -- A Villager whose vote counts 3 times in the daily tally.

Shaman -- Protects one person each night from the Werewolves and the Mafia, but cannot protect themselves.

Magistrate -- Pick one person per night to protect during the voting the next day.

Silencer -- Pick one vote to cancel during the day's voting.

Cupid -- Pick two people the first night they fall in love and they only win if they are the only ones left alive.

Lovers -- People shot by the Cupid who know each others roles and work together achieve victory. They retain all powers from their original roles.

Evil

Werewolves -- Kill one person per night as a group. Act as normal people during the day.

Devil -- Evil Seer whose only chance of winning is to help the Werewolves.

Mafia -- Kill one person per night as a group. Act innocent during the day.

Spy -- Evil Seer whose only chance of winning is to help the Mafia.

Warlock -- When killed this player curses another player, who dies at the end of the next day.

Zanzarah -- Protects one person per night from everything, but the hunter or only defends against the vigilante if the mod prefers. seer is unable to detect him and will get a different role. He cannot protect himself and will only win if an evil team wins.

Experimental Roles

Investigator -- Sends a PM to the mod, asking to investigate one choice murder of the night, any of Werewolf, Mafia, or Knight. The mod will respond with a list of three names. Two of them will be randomly chosen innocents, and one of them will be a randomly selected member of the guilty party. It was first tried in game X. It is up for debate as to whether or not the Investigator should act at knight, or during the day.

1337 Haxxor -- Each night the 1337 haxxor chooses one ability from the following along with someone who he wants to target with this ability: check on someone (getting good info), kill someone, protect someone at night or protect someone from lynching. The 1337 haxxor is also the only player capable of protecting himself, either at night or during the day, but can only do so once every other night. Lastly, checking the 1337 haxxor does not give the correct info. Never, ever. No matter if you're a Seer, a fool, or one of the bad guys, you get a random role, which might be good or evil. HOWEVER, if you check him a second time, then the role is chosen at random again, making it extremely unlikely that you're going to get the same role twice, thus revealing the 1337 haxxor. (The role was pioneered in a currently active game, and a new name will be decided on before it is implemented in non-science-fiction themed games.)

Other Notes:

1: The first night, only evil acts.

2: Day/Night time vary, but usually have a maximum of 48 hours each.

3: If evil fails to submit a kill within 48 hours at Night, the Masons will get to make the kill(s) for them.

4: For Antartic Rule, the evil teams are allowed to convert one person during the game on a night instead of killing them.

5: Mod can also make the Magistrate evil, so they only win if either evil team wins (like the Zanzarah)

6: Cupid could pick new lovers after the first set die if the mod wishes (idea wasn't given a good review)

7: Witness Mod: The Masons may select one of their members to view one of the kills of either the Werewolves or the Mafia. The chosen Mason will learn the name of one of the evildoers, and in turn, that evildoer will learn the name of the Mason who witnessed the killing.

8: Smart Vigilante Mod: Each night, the mod randomly one check from the seers/fools and sends the results of that check to the vigilantes.

9: Two-Timing Whore Mod: The two-timing whore is an NPC. Each night, any player, good or evil, may PM the mod and ask to sleep with the two-timing whore. The mod will give players 12 hours from the beginning of each night, and then randomly select a predetermined number of people from those that requested to sleep with the prostitute. He will use a six-sided die to determine their fate. They have a 1-3 chance of learning the identity of a random member of the other side (i.e., a good guy would learn a bad guy’s role), a 1-6 chance that a random member of the other side will learn their role, or a 1-2 chance that nothing will happen.

10: Mysterious Stranger Mod: A character is introduced on the first day (after the first night’s kills), and his role will not be listed in the tally of roles at the end of the day/night. For example, if nuttyturnip was the Mysterious Stranger, and he is added as Mafia, the mod would PM his name to the Mafia group, but the list of roles would not reflect the correct number of Mafia, so only the Mafia would know that's where the new member was. The only role that couldn't be added late would be the Vigilante, and it would be unfair to add in a Mole or a Spy.

11. Artifacts Mod: Various items that can be held by players giving them alternate or bonus abilites. Items are distributed at the beginning of the game at the mod's discretion. If a player is killed, the item is lost, and can be found again in the Black Market (see below). No player at any time can hold more than one item, save for the theif, if the theif is a playable role. The theif's ultimate objective is to obtain as many items as possible throughout the game.

12. Black Market Mod: Same as the Two-Timing Whore, but the potential to obtain lost items is added.

13. Dual Roles: A person could have Two different roles as long as it didn't unbalance the game too much in one favor (I.E. Seer and Vigilante).

Mini Games

ramoth brought up the idea of playing smaller, simplistic games on the side of larger, more monumental games. This was suggested in an effort to get more play in, and to attract new, inexperienced players. The games consist of one evil team, one seer, and a majority of simple villagers.

Pizza Island Games

Yeah that ain't never happenin' again.
